CHICAGO — A new flavor has joined Bel Brands USA’s Babybel Plant-Based cheese portfolio.

The Babybel Plant-Based White Cheddar Cheese Alternative is the first new variety to be added after the 2022 launch of the original Babybel Plant-Based, which has a flavor similar to Mozzarella cheese.

“In the one year since Babybel Plant-Based launched, it has become the No. 1 new item in sales of all refrigerated vegetarian options, and ranked No. 1 in trial and repeat of all new non-dairy cheese items, with 60% of sales coming from new buyers,” the company said.

What makes this dairy alternative unique is the on-the-go snacking ease the packaging creates. Each single-serve portion is wrapped in the classic Babybel wax, so the cheese can be safely tossed in a lunch box or kept loose in a refrigerator drawer for quick access.

The wax on the plant-based version is green, so if a household has some people who prefer plant-based and some people who prefer dairy, they won’t get them confused.

For a sustainability bonus, the product is sold in 100% paper pouches, with six servings in each pouch.

"Babybel Plant-Based has seen an overwhelmingly positive response to-date among flexitarian and vegan shoppers," said Ridhi Barber, senior brand manager at Babybel. "We wanted to continue this momentum and introduce a second dairy-free Babybel snack option in the fan favorite White Cheddar variety."

The new product is ready to roll out in May at retail stores across the country including Kroger, Hy-Vee, HEB, Albertsons Acme & East, Albertsons Portland and Certco.
