Prairie Fresh premiered several new ground products that will likely be in retail cases this September. Nashville Hot and Mild Italian grinds will ship under the Prairie Fresh Signature label, an Unseasoned grind will ship under the Natural label and Vermont Maple and Original will ship under the Daily’s label. Also at AMC, Prairie Fresh spotlighted its new XXT Bacon, a quarter-inch steak-cut bacon that’s a “totally different eating experience” from comparable products, said Ozlem Worpel, vice president, marketing and innovation, for Seaboard Foods.
Spartanburg introduced its new TGIF-branded Ribs and Wings Combo pack just before the Super Bowl, and one retail customer sold out 1,000 boxes before kickoff, said the company’s Joanne La Bounty. The price point of the combo pack is lower than if the ribs and wings were sold separately, La Bounty said. And the recyclable, smaller-footprint box has been a big draw, too, she added. Spartanburg is in its seventh year creating branded retail products under the TGIF brand.
At AMC ’24, Clemens Food Group spotlighted a new line of pork products designed for easy family breakfasts. Product ships under the company’s Hatfield brand.
Thomas Foods’ latest packaging innovation is a 100% recyclable Halo pack that features 80% less plastic than comparable products. The standard No. 3 sized tray has a variable depth depending on the product being packed.
Cargill showcased three brand-new whole muscle products: tri-tip, sirloin flap and short ribs. The cuts meet demand for value price points, and Cargill has seen a surge in demand for whole-muscle cuts, said Hilary Gerard, director of retail marketing. Case-ready products and labor savings were other themes the company was highlighting at AMC ’24.
Holten’s has a new Sliders option to go with its popular line of burgers, which the company said is the top launch in the frozen category in the past five years. The new Sliders rolled out in Giant Eagle, Aldi and other grocery stores in April. Both the regular and slider burgers from Holten’s are frozen within 20 minutes of being ground, ensuring a restaurant-quality experience, according to the company.
JBS brands highlighted a variety of new products at AMC ’24. New from the Swift brand is a line of bone marrow products tapping into surging demand for the category, often driven by health concerns, said Bill Munns, head of sales and supply chain, Regional Beef. Packs have a quick recipe on the back. “People want to create that restaurant experience of scooping out the marrow with a spoon at home.”
