New products from top producers attest to the enduring popularity of Italian cheeses in American diets and grocery store aisles.

The most recent evolution of Saputo USA’s line of Italian cheeses has been the introduction of imported Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano cheeses, both shipping under Saputo’s Stella brand.

Both products are sold in wedges and deli cups, said Jenny Englert, Saputo USA’s marketing director.

The Stella brand celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023, and Saputo celebrated in a very Italian way.

“We shaved and grated our way across the country with a mobile Italian bistro, hitting 11 cities and sponsoring the New York City Wine and Food Festival,” Englert said.

Along the way, she added, Saputo treated more than 56,800 people to premium Italian dishes with a modern twist – all featuring Stella Cheese as the star of the show. “It was the ultimate celebration for our heritage Italian-American brand, and we look forward to innovating and growing for the next 100 years.”

Saputo is constantly looking for new Italian cheeses, and the forms and packaging in which the company offers them, to “satiate a consumer hungry for Italian cheese,” Englert added.

While she couldn’t reveal any details, Englert said Saputo is currently workshopping new products and is excited about an innovation pipeline that will bring more new products and Stella Italian cheeses to market.

Convenience promises to be one of the guiding principles of that innovation.

“We know that consumers want their cheese and they want it easily accessible in different forms and packaging, so we’re looking into how we can improve our packaging from a convenience standpoint to increase usage and purchase occasions.”
