SALISBURY, MD. — Perdue Farms announced an extended partnership with GreenGasUSA to continue to improve its carbon-reduction goals, this time at the company’s Cromwell, Ky., facility.

Together, Perdue and GreenGas will upgrade the current methane-capture installation at the Cromwell facility. By modernizing the installation, Perdue plans to improve operational efficiency while reducing its carbon footprint. Greenhouse gas emissions are expected to be reduced by 5,000 tonnes per year.

Perdue estimates that the project will be completed by the fourth quarter of 2023.

“Working with like-minded partners like GreenGas, we’re able to accelerate our environmental efforts and continue reducing the impact of our business, as well as benefit the communities around our operations,” said Drew Getty, vice president of environmental sustainability at Perdue Farms. “Following the high-impact success of our first project together in North Carolina — through which we are on track to reduce our companywide carbon emissions by 17% — expanding our partnership with GreenGas was an obvious next step in our ongoing journey of continuous improvement at Perdue.”

Earlier this year, Perdue and GreenGas completed a similar project in their first partnership together. At Perdue’s Lewiston, NC, facility, GreenGas added an installation to capture methane from the operation’s onsite wastewater treatment facility and convert it to renewable natural gas (RNG). Since the installation, over 40,000 tonnes of CO₂ were captured and converted to RNG, Perdue said.
