As consumers begin to prepare for holiday gatherings and entertaining, they are likely thinking about the best wines to go with their charcuterie boards, meals and desserts.

Batavia, Ill.-based Aldi is cross-merchandising its new holiday cheeses under the Specially Selected label with the launch of its new premium Specially Selected wine collection.

According to Aldi, most of the new wines are priced under $10 per bottle to accommodate shoppers on a budget.

“The Specially Selected Wine Collection is the culmination of 40-plus years of experience ALDI has sourcing wine globally, partnering with more than 150 wineries from around the world,” the company said. “All 10 bottles were thoughtfully selected by ALDI from longtime partners in distinctive regions including Côtes de Provence, Uco Valley and Marlborough, as well as new partners from respected vineyards in Rioja and Barossa Valley.”

“Whether it’s the perfect expression of what Napa Valley has to offer, or an ancestral vineyard nestled in the south of France, the Specially Selected Wine Collection gives consumers a premium tasting experience without the added costs,” said Arlin Zajmi, director of national buying. “With the holiday season approaching, these wines are the perfect complement to special occasions like Friendsgiving, holiday parties and birthdays, offering guests a global getaway from the comfort of home.”

Aldi said it has had significant growth in wine sales in recent years, and the retailer offers shoppers more than 110 different bottles of wine in-store at any one time.

Five of the new Specially Selected wines will remain available year-round. The other five are limited to the holiday season and are the following:

  • Spain Rioja Reserva, $8.99
  • Australia Barossa Valley Shiraz, $9.99
  • Italy DOCG Prosecco, $10.99
  • France Sparkling Brut Rosé, $10.99
  • Canada Icewine, $14.99

As for Aldi’s new Specially Selected premium cheeses, the company said there are seven new cheeses available for less than $5 each. Flavors span a range from a well-balanced, earthy Farmhouse Blue Cheese Wedge to a rich Burrata made from fresh milk and the award-winning delicate flavored Mobay.

Aldi’s new wines and cheeses launched in-store in September and are also available online for curbside pickup and delivery, depending on state and local laws regarding alcohol.
