DESTIN, FLA. — At this year’s annual National Safety Conference for the Poultry Industry, Wayne-Sanderson Farms earned 14 safety awards — two Industry Innovation Awards and 12 separate facility awards.

The awards are granted based on injury statistics over a three-year period, along with an evaluation of written applications.

The company uses a Zero Accident Culture approach to employee safety, to which it attributes its strong safety performance. Senior Director of Safety and Health Reggie McLee leads the platform.

Launched in 2015, Zero Accident Culture stresses personal responsibility for safe practices and uses a proprietary Supervisors Safety Matrix that helps supervisors observe and improve upon team members’ behaviors.

“Our people are the most important part of our success,” said Clint Rivers, president and chief executive officer of Wayne-Sanderson Farms. “When we focus on safe practices and the safety of our coworkers every day, it becomes personal. We’re partnering with our team members to improve our entire operation and these awards are evidence that it’s working.”
