LOS ANGELES — Korean alternative meat brand UNLIMEAT announced it would start selling products in 1,500 Albertsons stores nationwide beginning Jan. 5.
Items include plant-based Korean BBQ and two flavors of pulled pork.
“Partnering with Albertsons to offer our unique and delicious plant-based foods to a wider audience is a testament to the industry’s evolution and increasing appetite for more diverse offerings,” said Ryan Chung, head of international business at UNLIMEAT. “We’re incredibly excited to bring our signature products to Albertsons customers, who deserve tastier and healthier plant-based options.”
The company stated its Korean BBQ product was a substitute for brisket, made from beef. The pulled pork meat alternative item will come in a traditional barbecue flavor along with sweet and smoky.
UNLIMEAT said it uses a defatted soybean powder, a product from soybean oil extraction, and rice bran, the husk that’s left when brown rice is milled. The company said some of the ingredients it uses are from upcycled materials.
