SPRINGDALE, ARK. – After launching its Raised & Rooted brand of plant-based and blended meat products in the United States in 2019, Tyson Foods Inc. announced on Nov. 9, plans to expand the line of five products to foodservice and retail customers in Europe.

Manufactured in the Netherlands, the products are made using locally sourced ingredients and contain no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and are egg-free and non-GMO. They are sold in recyclable packaging that is 60% bio-based plastic.

The five products include:

  • Light & Crispy Battered Nuggets
  • Garlic & Herb Dipping Fries
  • Crunchy Breaded Nuggets
  • Hot & Spicy Popcorn
  • Extra Crunchy Tortilla Nachos

Justin Whitmore, executive vice president of alternative protein at Tyson, said the success of the brand in the United States made expanding it to European customers a logical next step.

“Our plant-based nuggets and tenders are now sold in 10,000 stores and online, and we look forward to our continued growth,” he said. “Our expertise in this category, paired with our European innovation centers positions us well to serve global markets. We are leveraging Tyson’s deep capabilities to make plant-based protein more accessible and affordable for more people around the world.”

Brett Van de Bovenkamp, president of Tyson Foods Europe, said demand for plant-based food in the European market is growing as more consumers embrace flexible diets.

“Our unique capabilities in R&D and innovation, combined with our international footprint and infrastructure makes us uniquely positioned to be a European market leader in alternative protein,” he said.

Van de Bovenkamp added, “Our focus has been on taste and texture, and we’re confident our alternative protein products meet consumer expectations. We’re experts in the protein industry and have innovation centers to help us produce great tasting plant-based products on the market.”
