DoorDash announced a partnership with General Motors on Thursday, saying it will use GM's Cruise Automation program to deliver groceries and restaurant takeout orders.

The test program will begin in March in San Francisco and will initially involve just one merchantĀ and one vehicle with plans to expand. A runner system has been build to move orders from the merchant to the autonomous vehicle. Customers will then be notified when the vehicle is approaching the customer address.

"We see autonomous vehicles playing a major role in the future of delivery of consumer behaviors continue to shift online, and we are confident Cruise's leading technology will help us scale to meet growing consumer demand," says Tony Xu, DoorDash's CEO.
