The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association has partnered with two other industry organizations on a new food safety venture.
The Dairy Food Safety Alliance’s mission will be to deliver the latest in food safety news to dairy product manufacturers, processors and their suppliers, according to the Madison-based association.
The Center for Dairy Research and the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin are the other two groups in the partnership.
“New regulations and the recent uptick in food recalls have cheesemakers devoting more time and resources than ever to food safety efforts,” says John Umhoefer, the association’s executive director. “Our organizations aim to provide the support members need not only to meet the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act, but also to maintain and enhance the industry’s reputation for quality.”
The Dairy Food Safety Alliance will meet twice annually, with the first meeting set for Oct. 8 in Madison. Meetings will feature speakers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection and leaders in the fields of food safety and quality assurance.
