DALLAS — More than 2.1 billion pounds of avocados were exported from Mexico to the United States in the 2019-2020 season, a new record.

The analysis from Texas A&M University also found that avocados from Mexico contributed $4 billion to the US GDP and generated $6.5 billion in U.S. economic output, a 273% increase from $1.7 billion in 2012, according to Avocados from Mexico (AFM), the trade group representing the industry.

“AFM’s successful year and a 600% growth of avocado consumption between 1989 and 2020, makes it no surprise that they were also recognized as one of Mexico’s Ambassador Brands by the The Ambassador Brands report,” according to the organization. “AFM’s innovation catapulted the brand into a group of 11 finalists that positively reflect Mexicos’ image and reputation to the world, and demonstrates what the country has to offer as the 16th largest contributor to global commerce.”
