On Monday November 11, over 200 Kansas City areas employees of Corbion (formerly Caravan Ingredients and Purac), packed over 8,000 boxes of food to be distributed to families in need this holiday season. In conjunction with Harvesters, a local foodbank, which is part of the Feeding America network, Corbion employees gathered at their Grandview Distribution Center parking lot to work side by side packing boxes. The boxes were packed and palletized in just over 2 hours.
Corbion provided the food needed to pack the boxes which included all of the items a family would need to produce a Thanksgiving meal. Harvesters will then include turkeys via another supporter to complete the dinner. Harvesters estimates that they feed 66,000 meals every week in the area and Corbion has made it a priority to support this invaluable local organization in their mission to feed hungry people today and work to end hunger tomorrow*.
Nick Blawat, vice president global supply chain for Corbion said, “Hunger is ubiquitous. We challenged our organization this year to truly do something unique and BIG to combat it. I think we shocked Harvesters with the scale of what we accomplished and the tenacity and discipline with which Corbion staff planned and executed the event. I would encourage companies across every industry to explore service events like this as a way to do good while engaging and challenging their work force.”
