MILWAUKEE – Wisconsin-based meat processor Strauss Brands announced on Sept. 4 that it would build a new 175,000-square-foot headquarters and meat processing operation at Milwaukee’s Century City business park.

The company said it would employ 250 workers at the new location. Strauss plans to begin construction later this year with operations starting in 2021. Strauss currently operates in Franklin, Wis., a suburb of Milwaukee.

“Since 1937, we have proudly operated both in and around Milwaukee,” said Randy Strauss, co-owner and chief executive officer of Strauss Brands. “With the support of Mayor (Thomas) Barrett and Milwaukee economic development officials, we are excited to announce our return to the city of Milwaukee, home of our operational roots.”

The city of Milwaukee said it would sell 20 acres to Strauss for $1. It also plans to advance a developer-financed tax incremental district valued at up to $4.5 million.

Strauss processes specialty meats, including grass-fed beef and organic beef that are used at retailers and restaurants in the Wisconsin area. The company also produces lamb and veal.
