Meal kit leader HelloFresh will sell its kits through a partnership with retail giant Ahold Delhaize USA.

HelloFresh kits will be sold in 581 of Ahold’s Giant Food (Landover) and Stop & Shop stores. More stores, including smaller-format stores, are expected to be added throughout 2018.

The deal with Ahold follows a two-year program in which HelloFresh conducted pilot programs with retail partners to determine what meal kits would work best at retail. HelloFresh has expanded its distribution network from five to 11 facilities to minimize travel time and maintain high quality standards for product sold at retail. It also has designed retail-specific packaging to optimize retail shelf space.

HelloFresh’s retail offerings include Peppercorn Steak, Mediterranean Style Chicken, Homestyle Meatloaf, Chickpea Couscous, and Paprika Chicken, ranging from $14.99 to $19.99 (MSRP). Meals take less than 30 minutes to cook.

"How we’ve been embraced by retail brands shows the quality product line HelloFresh has brought to market,” says Tobias Hartmann, HelloFresh’s president for North America. “HelloFresh strikes a chord with households that want fresh dinners on the table, without artificial ingredients or overly complicated recipes. The addition of retail, a channel well-placed to benefit from the unique data, brand and infrastructure assets we have built out over the years, allows us to better address the everyday needs for even more customers, adding what we view as a highly complementary customer segment.”
