Kroger and Target have been discussing a possible merger since last summer, according to a report published Friday morning by Fast Company.
The move comes in the wake of Amazon's merger with Whole Foods and its subsequent hold on the market. The report says the companies aim to improve Target's grocery business while giving Kroger customers access to more merchandise and e-commerce. It also said the two companies spoke again in the fall and have had ongoing talks this year.
Target and Kroger combined for an annual revenue of $195 billion last year.
