FAIRFIELD, CALIF.  True Story Foods, a family-owned-and-operated meat business, announced its plans to sell Protein Toppers designed to give a protein boost to salads.

The company said the fully cooked diced chicken would be available in three flavors: Oven Roasted, Roasted Garlic, and Teriyaki Sesame. The Protein Toppers will be available at 250 retail locations.

“We created this product with the key insight that there was something missing from the produce section: protein,” said Phil Gatto, chief executive officer of True Story. “When we think about the way we shop, it makes sense to offer shoppers everything they need to make a healthy, delicious, and filling salad at home, all in the same part of the grocery store.

True Story explained that each serving features 15 grams of protein.

“Our Organic Thick Carved Oven Roasted Chicken product has long been a top seller,” Gatto added. “We hope that this new format, flavor variety, and merchandising approach will help turn a new set of consumers into True Story fans. Our goal is to be there wherever consumers are searching for high-quality, humanely raised meat.”

Other applications for the Protein Toppers could include wraps, quesadillas, deli salads and soups. True Story noted that some retailers are carrying the new product in the produce section by salads, while others are merchandising it in sliced deli items.
