BENTONVILLE, ARK. - In an act to protect employees and customers from coronavirus (COVID-19), Walmart US and Sam’s Club announced new precautions the retailer has implemented as of March 31.

Because of the rapid evolution of COVID-19, associates at Walmart and Sam’s Club stores, clubs and facilities will take a basic health screening as they report for a new shift. Any associate with a temperature above 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit will be paid for reporting to work and asked to return home. The associate will then not be able to return to work until they are fever-free for at least three days.

The retailer is also asking employees to be conscious of possible symptoms of COVID-19—coughing, feeling achy, difficulty breathing—and stay home from work if they don’t feel well.

While the CDC does not recommend that healthy people wear masks or gloves during their jobs, masks and gloves will be available to associates who want to wear them.

Walmart and Sam’s Club are asking associates to remember the 6-20-100 rule. Six feet is the distance employees should always keep from others, 20 seconds is the amount of time that should be taken to wash hands and 100 is the temperature at which someone should stay home.
