The Twin Cities are preparing for the addition of numerous supermarkets in 2017, most of which are planned by three retailers — Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, Hy-Vee and Aldi.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports the three chains will all open multiple locations in the next year, including at least three from Fresh Thyme. Hy-Vee plans to open in Cottage Grove, Farmington, Columbia Heights and two locations in Maple Grove, among others. Aldi, meanwhile, has plans for a Roseville store and Maplewood location and says it will announce several more locations at a later date. The additional stores will push Aldi's count to nearly 40 in the metro area.

Outside of that triumvirate, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are planning locations in downtown Minneapolis and Woodbury, respectively.
