JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG) has utilized its SEG Gives Foundation to provide youths ages 17 and younger with ‘Student Summer Lunch Pack’ meal boxes for only $2 in all Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery store locations through Labor Day.

SEG’s ‘Break from Hunger’ program exists to serve accessible and healthy meals to both customers and associates so that no child goes hungry.

The meal boxes are available in the deli section of SEG retail stores and include the choice of a ham or turkey sandwich, a bag of chips, a fresh fruit and bottled water.

For every $2 sale, the SEG Gives Foundation is also donating $1 to Feeding America, which provides at least 10 meals through local food banks per $1 donated. SEG aims to donate the equivalent of 1 million meals through the course of the ‘Break from Hunger’ program.

“The challenges that our communities have faced during these past few years have magnified the struggle of many families to feed their children during the summer months,” said Raymond Rhee, chief people officer of Southeastern Grocers. “Through our ‘Break from Hunger’ program and continued partnership with Feeding America, we aim to provide children with the nutritious food they need for a healthy life. We want to do everything we can to get food on the tables of our neighbors who need a helping hand – now more than ever.”

According to a 24/7 Wall St. report, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi – the five states in which SEG stores are located – are in the top 20 states with the highest child poverty rates in the country.

“These disheartening numbers highlight a critical need, and SEG is committed to partnering with organizations that focus on creating equitable, long-term solutions to food insecurity,” the company said.

According to SEG, In 2021, SEG and the SEG Gives Foundation donated more than $700,000 to community programs that work to alleviate food insecurity.
