UTRECHT, THE NETHERLANDS – In year three of the coronavirus pandemic, many consumers have changed their minds about key trends that impacted the food and agriculture industry in 2020 and 2021, according to a new Rabobank report.

Rabobank Consumer Foods Analyst Nicholas Fereday’s January Talking Points report, “What Have We Changed Our Minds About? (Part One),” provides input from monthly report readers on topics, including consumer resiliency, inflation, the emergence of plant-based meat alternatives (PBMAs) and supply chain disruptions.

The report also includes an analysis of:

  • The complexity of COVID-19, as consumers question whether the future timeline of food production will accelerate or slowdown
  • The continued increase of consumer demand despite rising food prices
  • Plant-based meat alternatives, which will grow in popularity and become more available at grocery retailers, restaurants and quick-service restaurants
  • New technology, such as automation, that could help resolve future supply chain challenges
