For 100 years Star Market has been shining bright in Greater Boston and surrounding areas. And, 2015 marks the celebration of a century of commitment to quality products, friendly service, dedicated employees and being Greater Boston's favorite local supermarket.

"For 100 years, Star Market has been part of the fabric of Boston. A city that is very important to our long history and exciting future. On behalf of Star Market, I would like to thank the city of Boston and local communities for helping us reach this amazing milestone," said Shaw's & Star Market President, Jim Rice.

Founded in 1915 in Watertown, MA, Star Market operated with core values such as hard work, family, and a principle of serving the customer first.  As the company grew and soon added another location in Newtonville, it became known for the outstanding customer service of the Star Market employees.

"Our employees are the key to the success of Star Market and have made it the iconic brand it is today.  Together, our Star Market Store Directors and Operations Specialists have more than 1,000 years of service.   And, we have employees who have been with the company for 40, 50, and even 60 years," added Mr. Rice.

Beginning this month, Star Market kicks off the Anniversary Festivities, which will go until the end of 2015.  From July until the end of December, the Company will celebrate the Anniversary by offering exciting Old Fashioned Special offers, and fun events that feature Star Market employees and local community partners.  Included in the festivities are the following celebrations, family fun events and promotions.

Starting in early July, a Star Market Thank You Boston billboard is proudly displayed on Morrissey Boulevard.

On the evening of July 3rd, Boston was shining bright, with the Prudential Tower lights turned Blue & Green to recognize the 100th Anniversary of Star Market!

Also on July 3rd, 100 Star Market employees, wearing Star Market Anniversary t-shirts, attended a Boston Red Sox Game at Fenway Park. And, in recognition of their 84 combined years of service, Marty O'Halloran (46 years, Store Director in the Brookline Star Market) and wife Dottie (38 years, Bakery employee at Porter Square) were recognized on the field prior to the Red Sox game. And to top off the great evening, in partnership with WEEI, 10,000 Star Market Anniversary K-cards were passed out to the public that evening.

On July 11th, all Star Market stores hosted an Open House where customers and employees celebrated the Anniversary with cake and fun in-store activities.

Family Fun Events:

The Magic 106.7 Family Film Festival features free outdoor movies at the Prudential Center. Star Market will be in the South Garden on the following nights and invites customers, employees and the community to these movies: July 18th, "Frozen" and July 25th, "Big Hero 6."

The July 18th event opens to the public at 6:00pm and attendees will be treated to the following:

Star Market is hosting a tasting event featuring local celebrity chef and restaurateur, Jason Santos. Santos, owner of Boston restaurants Abby Lane and Back Bay Harry's, was the runner-up and fan favorite on Season 7 of the FOX hit television show, "Hell's Kitchen." Santos has earned a recurring guest role on "Hell's Kitchen" and has also become a regular guest demonstrating his cooking expertise on the CBS television show "The Talk."

Attendees visiting the Star Market tasting tent on July 18th will also be treated to two traditional Boston dishes to munch on while enjoying their movie. Santos is serving up local favorites of lobster salad and rice pudding with a twist inspired by Star Market's 100th Anniversary. As part of the grocer's celebration, Santos is upgrading both iconic dishes to match the more modern tastes of the Boston food scene and the Star Market shopper. A coupon for a free 5-ounce bag of freshly popped popcorn from the Star Market deli will also be distributed, and attendees can win prizes for using the Star Market anniversary hashtag #StarMarket100 on their Twitter and Instagram posts during the event.
