COLD SPRING, MINN. — Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. announced on Oct. 13 that it will expand its Cold Spring, Minn., poultry facility as part of a $75 million investment.

According to the Greater St. Cloud Development Corp. (GSDC), when construction is completed in early 2021, about 130 new jobs will be added.

“Today’s announced expansion is an important strategic investment for Pilgrim’s, and it will help ensure our Cold Spring facility can grow its capacity to provide premium chicken products for people across the country,” said Wesley Smith, complex manager. “This news strengthens our ongoing commitment to this region, to our grower partners and of course to our team members.”

The expansion will add 50,000 square feet to the facility to increase daily production of its Just Bare chicken products. A portion of the project will be dedicated to improving employee facilities, including a new cafeteria, more breakroom space and increased locker room capacity.

As part of the deal, Pilgrim’s Pride has received a 10-year tax abatement from Stears County, Minn., the City of Cold Spring and the Cold Spring School District.

Currently, the Cold Spring facility employs nearly 1,200 workers. The company recently said it would invest $575,000 in the local community as part of its Hometown Strong initiative.

The plant was part of Pilgrim’s Pride acquisition of GNP company in 2017.
