OAKWOOD, GA. - Wayne Farms has raised more than $10,000 to support remote learning and digital home education in Surry County, N.C., where Wayne Farms is the community’s largest employer.

The fundraising idea came from Candace Murphy, a nurse and occupational health specialist who works with the Wayne Farms facility in Dobson, N.C. Murphy noticed that many families in the community don’t have proper technology to support digital education in the home and approached Wayne Farms management about beginning a fundraiser to help families in need.

Over the course of a few days Murphy and a team of Wayne Farms employees were able to raise $10,000 in cash and an entire pickup truckload of writing materials, earbuds and tech accessories that will be needed by Surry County students requiring virtual learning as COVID-19 continues to run its course.

“We’re so glad to be able to help our local schools—we live and work here too, so making sure our students are equipped and ready to learn is a priority for everyone,” said Murphy.
