GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - After the cancellation of the 2020 Meijer LPGA Classic, which would have raised funds for hunger relief program Simply Give, Meijer is donating $1.1 million to the hunger relief program.

"Meijer is committed to enriching lives in the communities we serve, which is more important now than ever before," said Cathy Cooper, executive director of the Meijer LPGA Classic. "Although this year's tournament has been cancelled, we didn't want our food pantry partners to feel that loss, especially given the increased need they've seen these past few months."

Typically, proceeds from the week-long tournament and festivities benefit the Meijer Simply Give program, which stocks shelves in food pantries across the Midwest. In 2019 the tournament raised $1.1 million for local pantries, and the retailer decided to match that number for this year.

The Meijer LPGA Classic hosts a full field of 144 of the best women golfers for 72 holes of stroke play over four days of competition. The 2021 event is planned for June 7-13, 2021.
