The Charley Family, who have been in the local grocery business for four generations, have announced the grand opening of their latest SHOP ‘n SAVE store, which will take place on Thursday, June 26. The completely renovated SHOP ‘n SAVE in Murrysville will offer residents an elevated full-service grocery experience as the “just right” place to be.

“We are honored to celebrate the grand opening of the Charley Family’s newest store,” said Bob Holmes, area sales director for SUPERVALU, which supplies the independently owned and operated SHOP ‘n SAVE stores. “This is the Charley Family’s third SHOP ‘n SAVE and we are proud to help them bring another locally owned grocery store to the area. This new store brings superior fresh foods, great grocery savings and added perks to the community.”

In 1901, Mike Charley emigrated from Syria at the age of 16 and began selling produce door to door from a sack on his back. He built a reputation of honesty, hard work and perseverance leading him to his food distribution business called Charley Brothers. With the help of his sons Jim, Fred, and Bill, they built a food distribution empire. In the early 1960s, the Charley Family began the SHOP ‘n SAVE group of supermarkets that helped locally owned stores band together to provide a better shopping experience. In 1977, they joined forces with SUPERVALU to grow the business.

The family tradition has continued with Jim’s son Ray and his children, Mike and Tom. Mike and Tom, the fourth generation, have learned the meaning of hard work and community service at a young age. Working with their Dad Ray, they have played an integral role in the planning and implementation of the new SHOP ‘n SAVE in Murrysville.

“The same unchanging values my great grandfather has instilled in us, honesty, hard work and perseverance, will be applied to our latest development in South Western Pennsylvania,” said Mike Charley, SHOP ‘n SAVE owner.

The new SHOP ‘n SAVE will provide a wide variety of fresh produce, prepared food options, expanded dairy and frozen foods section, a full-service deli and bakery with exclusive artisan bread baked fresh daily, and a full-service fresh seafood counter. Shoppers will also have access to a fresh floral department, greeting cards and hundreds of gift cards.

“My family and I are excited to build on the history of our family with our newest SHOP ‘n SAVE store and we are honored to be able to bring the deserving Murrysville community a grocery store that will fit their needs,” said Tom Charley, SHOP ‘n SAVE owner.

The grand opening celebration of the Murrysville SHOP ‘n SAVE is June 26, with doors opening at 7 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony held in front of the store with local dignitaries. The store is located at 4536 William Penn Hwy Murrysville, Pa 15668 and will be open Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, please visit www.shopnsavefood.com.
