Houston-based Great American Marketing Co. launched a recall of ready-to-eat sandwiches, wraps and salads that contain meat and poultry on concerns the items are contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported.

The affected products include:

  • CAESAR SALAD;
  • CHEF SALAD;
  • CLUB WRAP;
  • CHICKEN CAESAR WRAP;
  • DELI CUT HAM AND AMERICAN, DELI CUT TURKEY;
  • CHICKEN SALAD, JALAPENO PIMENTO CHEESE;
  • ITALIAN 6” SUB;
  • TURKEY PEPPER JACK 6” SUB;
  • TURKEY AND SWISS; and
  • HAM AND CHEDDAR SANDWICH.

The items were distributed in Texas and sold in Valero Corner Stores/Circle K Stores under Corner Store Market Label in different packaging shapes and sizes with the lot numbers (sell by date): 040819, 040919, 041119, 041319, 041419, 041519, 041619, 041819 and 042019.

FDA testing revealed the presence of Lm contamination in the production line equipment. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the items, but the recall was announced out of an abundance of caution, the agency said.

Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. But children, the elderly, pregnant women and individuals with compromised immune systems may suffer serious and sometimes fatal infections. Listeria can cause miscarriages and still births among pregnant women.
