Walmart is hoping to bring the future of grocery delivery to Phoenix.

The company announced Thursday a small pilot project with Waymo — Google's former self-driving car project — to help with online grocery orders at one of its stores in Chandler, Arizona.

The project will be limited to a group withing Waymo's 400 daily users known as "early riders." Those in the pilot program place an online grocery pickup order. Personal shoppers then pick customers' orders and have it waiting while Waymo transports customers to and from pickup.
