The snacking trend continues to grow at a rapid pace, according to a new report from food industry research firm Technomic Inc.

Eighty percent of consumers say they snack at least once a day, according to Chicago-based Technomic’s “2018 Snacking Occasion Consumer Trend Report.”

Thirty-seven percent of those polled say that any food can be a snack if the portion size is small enough.

Consumers are more likely now than they were in 2016 to replace one or two meals per day with snacks, and lunch is the most likely meal to be replaced, according to Technomic.

“As busy consumers continue to seek convenience and increasingly replace meals with snacks, look for grab-and-go boxes and heartier snacks such as wings and crab bites to fill the hunger gap,” says Kelly Weikel, Technomic’s director of consumer insights.
