CHICAGO — A Canadian batter and baked goods specialist hopes to bring a bit of Europe to its latest North American product.

Delta, British Columbia-based English Bay Batter, a subsidiary of Lievin, France-based Cerelia, was pushing North American instore bakery customers on its Dutch-style pancake bites at the Private Label Manufacturers Association’s annual show Nov. 12-14 in Chicago.

“It’s a European-style product that doesn’t exist in the North American market,” says Gregory Coquille, English Bay Batter’s R&D director.

The product can either be shipped in bulk for baking off in instore bakeries, or in 9 oz Creapan-branded packages, Coquille says. The bites are perfect for either sweet or savory applications, he says, and they’re a convenient, on-the-go item. Unlike traditional pancakes, the European-style pancake bites are not covered in syrup before being eaten, he says.
