Retail giant Target Corp. is opening 11 small-format stores the week of Oct. 16.

This latest round of openings for Minneapolis-based Target has an urban focus, with new stores in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and Minneapolis. Stores range in size from 20,400 to 48,000 sq ft.

Target expects to open 28 small-format stores in 2017, and by the end of 2019 to be operating more than 130. In a blog entry, Target said one goal of the smaller format stores is to make shopping “extra easy” for its customers. Shoppers at new smaller-format targets in New York City will have access to same-day delivery service.
