A producer of sustainable packaging for prepared foods and other foods has raised $10 million to expand its operations.

Richmond, Virginia-based TemperPack, which makes environmentally-friendly box liners and other insulation products, specializes in packaging solutions for e-commerce companies. The company’s fundraising round was led by SJF Ventures and also included Interplay Ventures, Third Prime Capital and Dolik Ventures, according to a news release.

Robert Beckler, formerly the president of packaging for WestRock, also participated in the investment and will join TemperPack’s board as executive chairman. Cody Nystrom, SJF’s managing director, also will join the company’s board.

"We are excited to be partnering with SJF and the other syndicate partners in this next phase of growth for the company,” says Brian Powers, co-founder and co-CEO of TemperPack. “TemperPack grew sales more than 500% in 2016, and the company is now ready to bring in outside capital to help meet growing customer and market needs for disruptive packaging and insulation products.”

In addition to prepared foods, TemperPack’s products are used to ship produce, meats and fish, meal kits and pharmaceuticals.

TemperPack was founded in 2014 to provide a more sustainable packaging option for e-commerce shipments of food. The company has more than 40 customers, and since 2015 it has recycled more than 5 million pounds of plant fiber.
