Eastern grocery chain Giant Food Stores LLC is bringing same-day delivery to its Philadelphia area customers.

Delivery specialist Instacart Inc. will provide the service for Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant, a subsidiary of Ahold Delhaize, according to a company news release.

Using instacart.com or Instacart’s app, Philadelphia area shoppers will fill their virtual carts, then select a delivery window — within one hour or two hours or up to seven days in advance.

“This partnership with Instacart gives our customers in the greater Philadelphia area another convenient delivery option,” says Tom Lenkevich, Giant’s president. “From quality to convenience, our job is to provide the best possible experience for our shoppers, and now that includes providing them with a same-day delivery solution.”

Giant and Martin’s Food Markets, an Ahold chain operated by Giant, operate almost 200 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
