Artisan breads from a new Canadian baker with a social responsibility message are now on U.S. shelves.

Mississauga, Ontario-based River Road Bakehouse began shipping its full line of artisan breads — including baguettes, ciabatta buns, brioche and sesame burger buns — in June, according to a company news release.

River Road products typically retail for $2.99-3.49 and can be found in U.S. Meijer, Publix, TOPS, Food City and Roche Bros. stores.

In addition to marketing its breads, River Road wants to spread the message of reducing food waste. The company’s #RoadtoZeroFoodWaste campaign supports awareness of what it calls a $165 billion food waste problem.

As part of its commitment to the issue, River Road, whose breads are made in zero-waste bakeries, has donated $15,000 to the Guelph Food Waste Project at Ontario’s University of Guelph. In addition, the company is partnering with 12 non-profit organizations in Canada and the U.S. that are committed to reducing food waste.

To support these organizations, River Road created an educational food waste quiz on its website. For every user’s first completion of the quiz, the company will donate 25 cents to one of the 12 organizations. An additional 25 cents is donated if the results of the quiz are shared on social media.
