Sendik’s, a Milwaukee-area supermarket retailer, opened its second Fresh2GO location this week and plans a third later this spring, highlighting the company’s emphasis on convenience and foodservice.

The Fresh2GO format is a smaller format than normal Sendik’s stores and includes the company’s Fresh2GO signature deli, which offers grilled-to-order paninis, a salad bar, a hot bar with homemade foods, an olive bar and other fresh grab-and-go items. The store also include hand-stacked produce and a variety of fresh products for on-the-go shoppers, in addition to full-service meat and bakery departments.

“Convenience doesn’t have to mean skimping on freshness or quality,” said Ted Balistreri, co-owner of Sendik’s. “With customers increasingly seeking fresh foods in smaller portions, and often shopping daily for snacks and meals, our additional Fresh2GO locations provide an enjoyable and convenient shopping experience.”

Retail prepared foods continue to grow in popularity with consumers shopping more and more from fresh perimeter categories. According to Nielsen Fresh research, total annual deli department sales in 2015 totaled $34.1 billion, up 47 percent from just five years ago.

The first Fresh2GO location opened in 2013.
