PLYMOUTH, WIS. — Artisan cheese maker Sartori acquired the cheesemaking division of California-based Rumiano Cheese Company, an organic cheese and butter manufacturer. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

Sartori took over Rumiano’s cheese facility in Crescent City, Calif., as well as the Rumiano Organic brand, while Masters Gallery Foods purchased Rumiano’s converting and distribution facilities in Willows, Calif.

Sartori described its purchase as a strategic acquisition that combines “two heritage brands with a shared passion for crafting exceptional cheese.” Based in Plymouth, Wis., Sartori said Rumiano will enhance its product lines and expand its market reach as the companies combine expertise and resources.

"This acquisition aligns with our mission to make the best cheese in the world,” Sartori Cheese chief executive officer Bert Sartori said. “We look forward to building upon Rumiano's commitment to their Redwood Coast family farm partners and local community. Rumiano's dedication to excellence and innovation makes them a perfect fit for our company."

Rumiano’s origins date back to 1919, and the company now is known for its commitment to sustainable practices, and pasture-raised organic cheese and butter products.

Sartori Cheese said it will integrate Rumiano’s products to complement its existing portfolio.

Said Rumiano Cheese Company chief executive officer Joe Baird: "For over 100 years, the Rumiano family has been dedicated to crafting exceptional cheese and butter with unwavering integrity. As a fellow family-owned business, Sartori shares our core values and commitment to quality, tradition and responsible stewardship. We're confident this next step in our journey will bring many exciting opportunities to our team, our local farmers, our customers and to the communities we've proudly served for generations."
