SAINT JOSEPH, MO. – Officials with Daily’s Premium Meats, along with local economic developers, local and state elected officials attended a groundbreaking ceremony commemorating an expansion project at the company’s bacon processing facility in Saint Joseph on May 12.
The $95-million project includes a 111,000-square-foot addition to the plant to increase production and warehousing capacity for the company’s foodservice and retail bacon products.
Investments in equipment at the plant will include additional smokehouses, more designated slicing rooms, production of bacon bits and the introduction of technology to ensure consistent pork belly sizes and integrated slicing at the plant, which began operating in 2016. The expansion is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2026.
Joe Richmond, Daily’s vice president and general manager, said the expansion demonstrates the company’s commitment to the city and state. The project is expected to create about 100 new jobs.
“Daily’s is proud to be part of the St. Joseph community, and this expansion will not only enhance our production capabilities for premium bacon products but also bring valuable job opportunities, driving the economic growth of St. Joseph,” he said. “We are immensely grateful to the state of Missouri, Buchanan County, St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce and the St. Joseph community for their support in our plant expansion. We are excited to continue making a positive and lasting impact on the community.”
Among the guests attending the event were: Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe; Natalie Hawn, president and chief executive officer of the Saint Joseph Chamber of Commerce; Lori Becklenberg, director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development; and John Josendale, St. Joseph’s mayor.
Daily’s is owned equally by Seaboard Foods and Triumph Foods. Its products are marketed and sold by Merriam, Kan.-based Seaboard Foods. Besides the St. Joseph plant, Daily’s operates bacon processing plants in Missoula, Mont. and Salt Lake City.
