MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO — Maple Leaf Foods Inc. provided the latest update on the new pork business Canada Packers Inc.

The company confirmed it now has an interim court order authorizing an annual and special shareholder meeting on June 11.

Canada Packers also provided a list of its senior management team. When the transaction is completed, Canda Packers is expected to have Dennis Organ serving as president and chief executive officer and Deepak Bhandari as chief financial officer.

Bhandari rejoined Maple Leaf last year in anticipation of the spin-off. Organ currently serves as president of Maple Leaf’s Pork Complex.

The proposal for the two companies first came in July 2024, with the name Canada Packers announced in October 2024.

The new pork company also named the following executives for various parts of the business:

  • Lance Mistelbacher, senior vice president of commodities and risk management
  • Jonathan Sawatzky, senior vice president, of hog production and procurement
  • David Typer, senior vice president of sales and product optimization
  • Mauricio Alanis, vice president of sustainability
  • LeeAnn Peters, vice president of food safety quality assurance (FSQA) and animal
  • Dezi Singh, vice president of people

When the new business is created, there will be a pork supply agreement that allows Maple Leaf Foods to use particular cuts for prepared food operations.

According to this latest update from Maple Leaf, the transaction is expected to close by the second half of 2025.
