Ahold Delhaize, Zaandam, the Netherlands, has adopted a new strategy, “Better Together,” which the company’s chief executive officer says will drive the company forward with a shared purpose: To build great local brands and bring fresh inspiration every day.

In the company’s 2016 annual report issued March 1, Dirk Boer, president and c.e.o., described the different ways Ahold Delhaize has used its knowledge of customers and changing trends as the foundation for developing the new strategy.

“To further satisfy and entice customers, we are improving our offering with better quality and more healthy choices, both at affordable prices,” Mr. Boer said. “In the United States, the Ahold USA brands finished rolling out new bakery and produce departments, as part of their continuing program to enhance the customer proposition and focus on fresh.”

The Ahold USA brands also are beginning to roll out a Deli Grab and Go program that the company says provides fast and easy meal solutions.

Mr. Boer also described headway made within the company’s Food Lion banner.

“Food Lion is improving its offering with its Easy, Fresh & Affordable strategy — focused on customer service, convenience, freshness and prices — and completed its deployment in the key Charlotte, North Carolina, market during the year,” he said.

Earlier this week it was announced that Ahold would invest $178 million in nearly 100 Food Lion stores in the Greensboro, NC-area.
