Both packaged and behind-the-glass deli salads continue to see innovation and category growth as consumers expand their palettes and look for convenient, delicious and affordable meal and snacking solutions.

Reser’s Fine Foods makes regionally specific varieties of potato salad, said Anne Nelson, director of brand strategy and category.

One, however, is a favorite across the country — Deviled Egg Potato Salad. A “fresh twist on a beloved classic,” as Nelson calls it, it combines tender potatoes, crisp celery, vibrant red bell peppers, hard-cooked eggs, and white onions, all tossed in a rich and creamy mayonnaise dressing.

In fact, it’s so popular, it inspired another salad that Reser’s “priority” deli salad: Deviled Egg Macaroni Salad which has also done well.

“Creamy, tangy, and irresistible, this upgraded mac salad pairs perfectly with any game-day spread, delivering comfort food vibes with a flavorful twist,” according to the company.

Third on the “priority” list this year for Reser’s is Reser’s Fine Foods Cole Slaw — which includes crisp cabbage, crunchy carrots, and a “sweet and snappy” mayonnaise dressing.

In 2025, Reser’s is also excited about how customers and consumers will react to its new Spicy Pickle Potato Salad, which the company created in response to increasing demand for bold, tangy and spicy flavors, Nelson said.

Look for another new deli salad flavor launch later this year, Nelson said. In 2025 Reser’s is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

“We have something exciting in store and can’t wait to share more soon.”

To come up with those and other innovative deli salad, Reser’s chefs, she said, are always tracking food trends — from restaurant and culinary circles to regional and emerging international flavors.

“People are continuing to look for ready-made sides in the grocery store to simplify their lunch and dinnertime routines without sacrificing quality and flavors.”

Another new response to that trend from Reser’s is a new line of pasta salads from its Stonemill Kitchens brand, launched in 2024.

“Our chefs’ trendspotting helps us identify textures and flavors that are exciting to our consumer base,” Nelson said.

The mix of packaged vs. behind-the-counter salads has remained fairly constant, she added.

“The category is stable across both product formats. Salads are a staple of the deli that withstand environmental factors.”
