PHILADELPHIA — Deli meat and cheese producer Dietz & Watson is looking to cut down on its carbon footprint with a newly announced 15-year renewable supply agreement with Constellation, a supplier of clean, emissions-free, reliable energy.
The agreement encompasses the equivalent energy use of the company’s Philadelphia and Baltimore facilities.
More specifically, Dietz & Watson will receive 39,000 megawatt hours of energy annually through Constellation. That energy will be matched by Green-e Energy Certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), sourced from other clean energy facilities in the United States.
Through the contract, Dietz & Watson plans to reduce its carbon footprint by more than 18,600 tonnes annually — the equivalent of nearly 4,400 passenger vehicles, according to estimates from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
“We value the health of our surroundings and our environment,” said Louis Eni, chief executive officer of Dietz & Watson. “If our decisions can help improve the world in which we live and work, we will do it. That is why we have taken this step in the right direction and made the decision for our facilities to work with Constellation on this renewable energy program.”
