While health and wellness trends take the lead in 2025, consumers still want indulgent foods like pizza. Many are experimenting with making their own pizzas at home with fresher ingredients.
One of the foods Mike Kurtz, founder of Mike's Hot Honey, said he likes to make the most with his swicy honey is goat cheese pizza.
Alternative cheese company Daiya recently developed a new spicy Diavola flavor of its plant-based, gluten-free frozen pizza made with its signature Oat Cream blend Mozzarella.
Daiya said 84% of consumers enjoy spicy dishes and 1 in 3 are eager to try new levels of heat, adding that more and more consumers are “increasingly seeking at-home dining experiences that feel like a restaurant indulgence.”
Specialty cheese companies making sweet heat-flavored cheeses can lean into this demand for healthier indulgent foods and highlight their cheeses as fresh, premium ingredients that can level up pizzas made at home.
John Kelly, chief marketing officer at Daiya, said there is a lot of skepticism with plant-based cheeses and gluten-free pizzas. Many consumers with dietary restrictions have had one too many experiences with bland flavors and bad textures being their only choices.
For gluten-free consumers, retail stores could merchandise their premium swicy cheeses with ready-to-cook gluten-free pizza crusts to encourage consumers not to settle for bland and to experiment with new flavors they might not even be able to find at on of their local restaurants.
