CASTROVILLE, CALIF. — Ocean Mist Farms has had an excellent winter artichoke season from its farm in Coachella, Calif., according to the company.

“The quality looks good, and we expect ample supply of our seasonal Frost-Kissed artichokes over the next couple weeks,” said Commodity Account Manager, Ben Wilson. Continuing, “This is a great opportunity for retailers to take advantage of these volumes and promote artichokes, especially sought-after Frost-Kissed artichokes.”

Frosted artichokes have unique markings on the outer skin from temperatures dropping into 30°F and below, Ocean Mist Farms said. The browning peels away when the artichoke is cooked to reveal the classic vibrant green consumers know.

According to Ocean Mist Farms, the browning enhances the nutty flavor of the artichoke. Many consumers prefer the flavor of frosted artichokes, making them a high demand limited time offering.

For consumers who do not know about the benefits of frosted artichokes, Ocean Mist Farms adds educational petal inserts to its Frost-Kissed supply. The inserts explain the natural occurrence and emphasizes the limited availability.

For additional merchandising tools, retailers can visit Ocean Mist Farms’ point of sale website to order the petal inserts, case cards, shelf wobblers and other point of sale materials.
