Slicing bread within the instore bakery creates a unique experience for the consumer and a customer touchpoint for the supermarket.

“Instore bakeries compete with retail bakeries, where a more neighborhood feeling may be part of the experience for the consumer,” said Yvonne Johnson, senior communications and brand manager for Oliver. “Offering slicing elevates the instore bakery to a ‘store within a store’ and can create incremental sales by keeping the consumer engaged.”

Standing the test of time

Oliver offers four bread slicers: the Model 732 Front Load Slicer, Model 777 Variety Slicer, Model 758 Front Load Duo-Slicer and Model 797 Gravity Feed Slicer.

And for bagels and buns, there’s Oliver’s Model 723 Bagel & Bun Slicer.

All of those slicers have been on the company’s product roster for some time, which in this case is definitely not a bad thing.

“The unique aspect of Oliver slicers is the models haven’t changed much,” Johnson said. “There have been minor changes to meet standards such as NSF and UL requirements, but the core technology has stood the test of time.”

Simplicity of operation and NSF certification are what separate Oliver slicers from other products in the market, she added.

The company’s machines also boast a less complicated maintenance schedule.

“Daily removal of crumbs along with regular blade changes – every six months – will keep the slicer running for years without issue,” Johnson said.
