A new survey of more than 1,000 consumers shows that Americans are consuming more fresh products — including fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses — than they were three years ago. The survey, compiled by OpinionWay for fresh food department solutions companies Bizerba and Invatron, shows nearly half of Americans consume more fresh products and 41 percent say their consumptions has remained the same over the last three years.
Also included in the findings:

•    Young people under the age of 35 are far more likely to choose fresh items than those older than 50 (58% vs 38%).
•    Just 45% of people in the lowest income group said their consumption of fresh products had increased, as opposed to 53% of those in the highest income group.
•    Nearly 60% said they are more conscious of what they eat and prefer a healthier diet.
•    Respondent said fresh products are more flavorful (75%), healthier (74%), better quality (74%) and contain a higher number of healthy ingredients (74%).
